Disease Diary

The Disease Diary will be an ongoing project that you will work on throughout the school year. There will be two entries due each grade period, for a total of 12 for the year. Although they will be graded at each grade period, this assignment will influence only the semester grades.

The diary will contain information on specific diseases of the different organ systems. Your log should include information that you have gained from both library and internet research. Interviews with scientists or medical professionals will enhance your work. The following is the list of topics:

Heart Disease

Lung Disease

Digestive Diseases

Urinary Diseases

Reproductive Diseases

Immune Diseases

Skin Diseases

Bone Diseases

Muscle Diseases

Nervous System Diseases

Endocrine Disorders

Blood Diseases

Within each topic you may choose any disease/disorder. Cancers, bacterial/viral and genetic issues are all viable options. You may choose your topics in any order, but you must inform me ahead of time for a sign off on your choice. Entries in your Disease Diary are due by the last Monday of each grade period (closed week), although they may be examined earlier.

Each submission should contain one or more graphics representing some aspect of the disease. An outline description of the specific characteristics of the disease, it's causes, signs, symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment are all required. Do avoid plagiarism; Place information in your own words.

All sources should be cited in the correct format for print and internet. Please include references for any graphics you include. If you find a particularly useful source site, please indicate this (or better yet, e-mail me) so it can be added to the class reference. Please use the reverse side of this as your cover page. Place the date recorded in the blank as you finish each entry.
