Bone Structure: A Course of Study
You are going to begin a study of the four major groups of tissues. Through this sequence you will examine the nature of tissues, specialized cells that are the foundation of all organ function.
Do your best to work on your own; you will learn less if you copy from others. Don't cheat yourself.
This sheet will serve as a 'cover sheet' that will precede all the work in your binder that will not be in your lab book. As the work is completed I will check it off below. Some will have specific due dates, others will be due at the end of the unit
• Vocabulary- define the Skeletal Vocabulary terms, List A from the Class Web site. Do these words in your Lab Book. Due Date is:
• Text reading- From your book, Chapter 6, read pages 128-130 on bone structure; read pages 131-133 on bone growth; read pages 133-136 on bone remodeling;. As you read, outline the chapter or take notes on the material. Do each section as we cover it in class (don’t do remodeling while we are studying basic structure). Do each section on separate pages to be added to your binder (will follow this sheet). Show me each section for checking when completed. Due before each section exam
• Color sheets- Plates 9 on bone structure. Be sure to be neat. PLEASE be neat! These will be turned in for grading. When returned they are to be entered into your binder. Due dates TBD
• Lab Exercises #10- Your text book will help out with these. Be sure to check the links to the HistoWeb to assist the microscope work portion of the Lab. This assignment will be done in your Lab Book and will be graded. Due dates TBD
• Supplemental Reading- Read the article "Bones of La Florida", which can be downloaded from the class web site. Answer the study questions in your Lab Book prior to the Final Tissue Exam. Due Date is:
• Supplemental Exercise- Complete the supplemental handouts on bone tissue and bone structure. Due Date is:
• Review Questions- Prior to our Bone Structure Exam, do the following from your book, Chapter 6, Pages 171-172, questions 1-2, 5, 13, 16-18, 30-31, 35-36, 42 answered on a separate sheet to be added to your binder. Show me for checking upon completion, prior to the final bone test. Due Date is:
